Joseph was a PhD student at the University of Sydney, working in the Quantum Control Laboratory’s Penning trap. His research, ‘Quantum simulations and sensing with large ion crystals in a Penning trap’, utilised the lab’s trapped ion quantum computer for quantum simulations and dark matter detection.
