EQUS' guide to translating research into real-world applications
Research translation doesn’t need to be mysterious – or exclusive to certain disciplines. At EQUS, we built a Translational Research Program (TRP) to help researchers explore, test and develop the real-world potential of their work. Over seven years, this program supported more than 50 early-stage projects, provided targeted training and mentoring, and fostered new connections with industry, government and investors.
But this isn’t just an EQUS story. We want other Centres of Excellence, institutes and research groups to be able to build similar programs, adapted to their own contexts.
The structures and support we put in place – translation grants, partner engagement models, lightweight mentoring schemes – are all adaptable.
Resources
You’ll find our key resources below:
- EQUS’ guide to translating research into real-world applications: the EQUS translation white paper
- Useful documents and templates bundle to implement your own translation program
- Flyers showcasing some 20 EQUS translation projects
White paper
The EQUS translation white paper outlines how the Centre moved discoveries from lab to application. Drawing on 53 projects, it shares successes, setbacks and lessons, with practical advice on industry links, researcher support and turning ideas into outcomes, aiming to help other Centres and institutions do the same.
Template bundle
The EQUS translation toolkit offers templates, trackers and processes developed through the TRP. This resource bundle aims to help other Centres and institutions set up their own programs from day one, with ready-to-use materials for project selection, management and evaluation, reducing uncertainty and supporting translation of science into impact.
“These resources are designed to be shared, reused and adapted. Whether you’re starting from scratch or looking to evolve an existing program, we hope this provides both a useful blueprint and a practical set of examples.
The core lesson? You don’t need to wait for perfect conditions – you can start translating research today with the tools you already have.”
— Halina Rubinsztein-Dunlop, EQUS TRP Director
Translation Flyers
In 2023, EQUS sponsored and co-hosted the Quantum West: Translation & Industry Showcase event. For the occasion, we developed flyers for some 20 projects to highlight the many journeys through the TRP. You can download the bundle below.
