Dr Robert Wolf

Dr Robert Wolf leads the Penning trap experiment at the Quantum Control Laboratory at the University of Sydney. He received his PhD from the University of Greifswald (Germany) in 2013. In his PhD project, Robert developed and employed an ion trap as a precision mass spectrometer for short-lived nuclides and measured the mass of Zn-82 for the first time, which enabled a more precise calculation of the composition of the outer crust of neutron stars. He then moved to the Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics in Heidelberg (Germany), where he developed a Penning trap for high-precision tests of quantum electrodynamics and the determination of the fine structure constant. In 2016, Robert moved to the University of Sydney, where he now aims to perform quantum simulation and sensing experiments, for which he received the ARC Discovery Early Career Research Award in 2019.
