Kirk, a professor at ANU, joined EQUS after 11 years at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology. He brought to EQUS his research on space-based optical systems, focusing on laser stabilization for gravity-sensing. The ANU has collaborated with CI Stace on applications of laser ranging. Kirk won the NASA Exceptional Public Achievement Medal (2019), the NASA Group Achievement Award (2019), and the NASA/JPL Voyager Award (2018).
