Ali was a Masters student and then a PhD Candidate at Macquarie University based at CSIRO Lindfield, investigating solid-state spin-cavity systems for quantum-based applications.

Within EQUS Ali was a member of the Low-Temperature Cavity QED Laboratory and the MQ Centre for Quantum Engineering.
