Alexei’s expertise is in quantum optics and quantum information. He has published extensively on characterizing experimental implementations of quantum protocols, modelling real-world imperfections, and designing encoding schemes to combat these. In particular, he brought valuable modelling skills for open quantum systems to the Centre. Alexei brought his expertise in modelling and characterisation of open quantum systems and make key contributions to the program on quantum engines and instruments. With capacity to engineer quantum systems, the Centre had an impact on both developing quantum thermodynamics (driven by ideas in quantum information), and applying those principles to engineering new quantum devices.
