What’s the link between fraud detection, financial algorithms, quantum optics and sovereign quantum capacity?
In this thought-provoking talk (Quantum Computing: Real-World Applications), Prof. Gerard Milburn draws a direct line from fundamental quantum theory to practical quantum technologies and national infrastructure. Along the way, Prof Milburn demystifies how quantum systems can be used to solve problems in finance, security, and beyond—all while making a case for Australia’s long-term role in the quantum future.
The talk was held at Brisbane City Hall and live streamed. Some 150 people attended the talk and those present enjoyed the opportunity to ask questions and engage directly with Professor Milburn and other leading academics in the quantum physics industry.

This lecture, co-hosted by EQUS, Quantum Australia , The Australian Institute of Physics Queensland Branch and the Queensland Government was delivered in Meanjin Brisbane. Gerard Milburn, a pioneer in quantum technologies, was the founding Director of EQuS in 2011, and is now Assistant Professor in Quantum Optics and Quantum Technologies at University of Sussex and first Quantum Fellow at the National Quantum Computing Centre (NQCC).
