Filming of the National Science Quiz took place on Monday 22 July at Questacon in Canberra. EQUS is a major sponsor of this year’s event, which is being led by CSIRO. The 2024 quiz will be hosted by ABC Breakfast weather presenter Nate Byrne. EQUS Associate Investigator Lachlan Rogers is one of the six panellists hoping to take home glory (a small trophy) rather than being nitrogen-bombed off stage!
Lachlan has played a major part in the delivery of the quiz in previous years, especially as part of the question committee. This has previously precluded Lachlan from being on the panel, so it was great to see him get that opportunity this year. As usual, Lachlan delivered enthusiasm in spades, even getting his own Clear as Quantum EQUS merch for the event.
EQUS Comms & Engagement Manager Kristen Harley, as well as Lachlan’s family, travelled to Canberra to watch and support the live recording. It was interesting to witness what goes on behind the scenes of an edited television-like production. After filming, the EQUS delegation had the opportunity to network with the hosts, sponsors and production team, along with other Canberra-based STEM professionals.
The quiz is now being edited into a high-quality production, ready for release on YouTube on Monday 12 August, in time for National Science Week. Viewers are encouraged to play along at home, school or work, with prizes awarded to winning participants at the end of National Science Week.
