In an exciting development, EQUS Research Fellow Chris Baker has been awarded the highly coveted 2024 ARC Future Fellowship. Securing this fellowship is a remarkable achievement, especially considering the intense competition and a national success rate of only 17%.
Chris's project, "Superfluid Helium: A Probe into the Universe," aims to develop advanced photonic circuits and microscopy techniques to study superfluid helium. This unique quantum liquid flows without dissipation and features quantized vortices, allowing exploration of extreme nonlinear flow regimes in a compact lab setting. The outcomes could revolutionize our understanding of turbulence and dark matter, bolstering Australia's leadership in quantum science and precision measurement—key drivers of future economic growth.
Congratulations to Chris Baker on this outstanding achievement and for his contribution to advancing quantum research.
The Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Engineered Quantum Systems (EQUS) acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and their continuing connection to lands, waters and communities. We pay our respects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and to Elders past and present.
