Sam is a postgraduate student at the University of Sydney currently undertaking a PhD with Professor Stephen Bartlett.

His research focuses on a fundamental issue in condensed matter theory to understand and classify quantum phases. He will examine a class of phases which are characterized by symmetry protected topological (SPT) order. While these systems in 1D are well understood, much less is known about higher dimensional SPT phases.

He hopes to find important features of these ordered states including how they may be used as resources for measurement based quantum computation.

Qualifications:
BSc (Adv. Mathematics) (Hons), University of Sydney, Australia (2014)
